107- Classroom Management Session #3
What I learned about individualized behavior plans and behavior intervention is the importance of using data to truly understand behavior, especially when students aren’t responding to Tier 1 or Tier 2 supports. Identifying at risk students and completing a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) helps guide the creation of a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) with one achievable goal at a time, often starting with a short term plan focused on stabilization and regulation. It’s important to consider the whole child, provide structure and supports, and include a safe space for when students reach a crisis point. Ongoing data collection, progress monitoring, and regular communication allow teams to adjust and improve the plan as needed. Overall, the process is continuous.. Assess, implement, monitor, and revise to ensure the interventions are effective.
I can use this while subbing by sticking to routines, giving clear expectations, and breaking tasks into smaller steps when needed. Pay attention to behavior patterns and respond calmly with simple supports like redirection or short breaks. Taking quick notes on what I notice can also help the teacher adjust supports later.
