107-Classroom Management Session #2
I learned that intervention and prevention both in and out of the classroom require a structured and consistent process to support student success. In Tier 1, it starts with setting clear expectations, using tools like flow charts, and gathering baseline data to determine student needs. From there, you analyze the data, provide interventions, monitor progress, and then re-evaluate and adjust as needed, understanding that behavior change takes time, consistency, and patience. In Tier 2, which supports about 15% of students, I learned that in-class interventions focus on teaching and reinforcing desired behaviors, reteaching expectations, and collaborating with teams and parents while setting goals with students. Out of the classroom, support includes small groups of about 3–7 students for 6–8 weeks with focused sessions based on student needs. I also learned how important it is to document everything, stay organized with data and progress monitoring, communicate with teams and families, and ensure accountability so students can take ownership and continue making progress.
I can use this while subbing by following the classroom’s expectations and supporting the systems already in place for behavior and learning. I will reinforce expected behaviors, help redirect and reteach when needed, and support small group work if it’s part of the plan. I’ll also take notes on student behavior and progress so I can communicate clearly with the teacher and help with consistency, while staying patient and understanding that progress takes time.
