107-Classroom Management Session #1
I learned that strong classroom management starts with a Tier 1 prevention focus by setting the tone early, clearly establishing expectations, and consistently reinforcing simple rules like being safe, respectful, and responsible. It’s important to model, teach, and reteach behaviors, use visuals, start the day with a positive tone, and build structure through routines, praise, and class reward systems. I also learned that when behaviors arise, it’s important to document everything, communicate with parents, and use reteaching and MTSS strategies to support students. Ongoing management depends on building relationships first, then continuing to teach, reinforce, and provide specific feedback while understanding the “why” behind behaviors and adjusting supports as needed, including moving students to Tier 2 when appropriate.
I can use this while subbing by setting clear expectations right away and reinforcing simple rules like being safe, respectful, and responsible. I will follow the teacher’s routines, use a positive tone, and give lots of specific praise to keep students on track. I’ll also stay consistent, redirect behaviors when needed, and leave notes for the teacher, while building quick positive relationships so the classroom stays structured and supportive.
