Communication is very important when discussing possible intervention groups for students. Other teachers in the grade with the same student and even past teachers notes can be very helpful in assigning intervention groups for certain students. Some academic and behavior intervention needs can be found early on through screening as a potential prevention you can get them set in an intervention group right away. Communication with the student is equally as important. Explain to the student how and why they are in or being considered for intervention and have them set SMART goals and personal goals your team can keep them accountable on. Parents need to be in the loop as soon as any speculation of a student needing to be assigned intervention. Once a student is in intervention its crucial to document weekly on behaviors. Always keep notes and praise whenever possible on students doing their best to apply themselves and follow through on the goals. Be willing to adapt schedules and routines to accommodate needs of intervention students without getting too off track the main class. Be mindful when assigning multiple students in a behavior group that they will help more than enable behaviors. Have pateince and beleieve in your students that may need some extra help.
