I learned that self-care is really important in teaching because it helps you stay balanced and avoid burnout. It’s important to set and maintain boundaries, take time to acknowledge moments of gratitude or joy, and reflect on your own feelings and needs. I also learned that recognizing what is and isn’t in your control can help reduce stress, and building small self-care routines into your day can make a big difference. Overall, taking care of yourself allows you to show up as a better, more present teacher for your students.

I can use self-care while subbing by setting clear boundaries, staying organized, and not taking on more than I can handle. I will take a moment to reflect on what is in my control, keep a positive mindset, and appreciate small wins throughout the day. Using simple self-care routines, like staying calm during challenges and taking short mental breaks when possible, will help me stay balanced and be more present for students.
