  • 106-Organization Session #1

I learned that strong organization, procedures, and routines are essential for a successful classroom because they keep everything running smoothly and help students stay focused. Classroom organization starts with pre-planning, setting up materials, arranging the space, and using strategies like labeling, visuals, color coding, and clear routines for group work and transitions. Teacher organization is just as important and includes staying on top of lesson plans, schedules, materials, technology, communication, goals, and even having sub plans ready, while still being flexible when needed. Student organization also plays a big role, with things like desk organization, clear expectations for academics and behavior, consistent daily routines, calm spaces, student helpers, and opportunities for reflection. Overall, being organized helps create a structured but supportive environment where students can take ownership of their learning and be successful.

I can use this while subbing by quickly following the classroom’s existing routines and keeping things organized so the day runs smoothly. I will stick to the teacher’s lesson plans, maintain clear expectations, and use the classroom setup (like labels, schedules, and routines) to guide students. I’ll also encourage students to stay organized, follow transitions, and take responsibility for their work, while being flexible if needed.
