I learned that iPads are a great tool for both teaching and learning, especially when you understand the basics and features they offer.

    iPad Basics

    • Touring the iPad
    • Turning it on/off
    • Caring for the device
    • Basic troubleshooting

    Accessibility Features (Settings > Accessibility)

    • Reading: supports students learning to read
    • Writing: helps check spelling/grammar
    • Speaking: speech-to-text
    • Listening: reads full pages aloud
    • Other tools: large text, zoom, voice control

    Engaging Learning Apps

    • Math: Zearn, Number Skills
    • Reading: Teach Monster, Read for Fun
    • Math & Reading: Khan Academy Kids, Prodigy, IXL
    • Interactive: Task Cards, Boom Cards, Response Notes, Kahoot
    • Ebooks: Getepic, StoryOnline

    Built-in Apps

    • Notes, Camera, Keynote, Pages, Screen Recording

    Assessments

    • Apps like Zearn help track progress and give placement tests

Overall, iPads help engage students and support different learning styles in a fun and interactive way.

I can use iPads while subbing to keep students engaged with learning apps, support different learning needs using accessibility features.
