What I Took Away From These Videos

    • Each student is in charge of their own behaviors and learning. I have heard this before but today I actually used it with one of the students I was helping. The student kept saying that he was going to fail anyways (spelling test). I told him it is up to him to want to practice. Also showing visuals or writing on the board what the lesson is or what supplies will be needed in advance will eliminate questions (what are we doing next, do we need any supplies other than a pencil.)
    • acknowledge all students, treat them with respect and acknowledge their effort and celebrate even the smallest accomplishments, this will boost up their confidence
    • give plenty of examples when modeling a lesson, give the students plenty of time to work by themselves so you can check that they are doing it correctly by themselves
    • give short quizzes, exit tickets so you can see where your students are so you can adjust your lesson depending on where your students need to go
    • tell students to ask for help if they need it, **it is OK not to get it
    • evaluate which students are not meeting grade level work, give those students additional support, have these students in a small group, let them know that they are in this group because they are struggling with ……
    • for the students that are struggling build on what they know and what they can do, start there to give them confidence
