  • 104 Academic Interventions Tier #2

For Session 2 on Academic Interventions (Tier 2), I learned that small group support helps students who are not meeting grade-level expectations. These groups are usually about 4-8 students and support around 10–15% of learners. I also learned that management is important during small group time, like having a designated space, clearly explaining expectations, and making every minute count. It’s also important to tell students why they are in the group so they feel empowered. Instructionally, teachers should meet students where they are, build on what they already know, and use data to guide instruction. Celebrating small and big successes can also help build student confidence and encourage progress.

    Key takeaways:

    • Use small groups (4–8 students) for targeted support
    • Use data and progress monitoring to guide instruction
    • Meet students where they are and build on prior knowledge
    • Celebrate student growth and achievements
    • Use hands-on tools like games, manipulatives, and whiteboards
