  • 104 Academic Intervention – S2 tier 2

Tier 2 focuses around small group students generally around 4-8 students and it is to benefit and reach out to the 10-15% of students that are not quite to the level. I learned progress monitoring cycle of about 6-8 weeks and sessions split into a few days out of the week. The biggest key to management at this level is clear communication. Letting students know why they have been picked to work in this group. define expectations such as bringing daily materials and using data derived from the classroom to determine intervention groups. When working with students in tier 2 instructions should be clear start by building confidence by having them work on what they can do and then expand from there. Its okay to have different activities and instructions for some kids within the small group as long as the others roles are clearly identified. Encourage students to take risks and share their thoughts and look for building strats and skills the kids can use independently.

Time is of the essence so structure is important. Timing activity’s is a quick easy way to gain progress monitoring. I wish to implement focusing on fluidity of subjects as well as setting time goals for my students to see where everyone is at. Spreadsheets were also mentioned as a very good teacher tool I am curious about, Teamwork is the goal both with he individual student and implementation at home as well if needed to increase parent support and engagement with child’s growth. Its important to remember child development and psychology at certain ages as well!
